Join the Virtual Lyme Warrior 5K
Lyme Warrior has spent 10 years funding the scientists working hardest to change what's possible for Lyme disease patients. This May, we're celebrating that — and we want you to be part of it.
Our Lyme Warrior Virtual 5k joins with our Lyme Warrior 10 year gala celebration!
Galas are so often only for practitioners and researchers but to us, this is the community that makes it possible and we want you to be there.
10 years ago we started Lyme Warrior when I couldn’t even get out of bed myself from Lyme symptoms and now I am so excited to be able to bring this fun and gathering through your screens to the community.
Lyme Warrior 10 year anniversary gala will be a fun filled evening of our amazing researchers Eva Sapi, Monica Embers, and Nicole Bell competing in silly fun games to raise money for their research and testing.
Shooting ticks, finding spirochetes in gummy worms, its gonna get silly.
You can be part of that fun virtually!
1. Sign up for the Virtual 5K: Be entered to win prizes just for signing up!
2. Pick your researcher when signing up to raise funds for them!
3. Share your link and get the community involved in making a difference in the future of Lyme!
Here's the researchers & what they're working on:
TEAM EVA SAPI — Why antibiotics stop working
Dr. Eva Sapi is a professor at the University of New Haven who made a discovery that changed how scientists understand Lyme disease. She found that Lyme bacteria can build a protective shell around themselves — called a biofilm — that shields them from antibiotics. This is why so many patients take antibiotics and still don't get better. Her lab is now working to find treatments that can break through it.
TEAM MONICA EMBERS — Proving persistence is real
For years, Lyme patients told their doctors that the bacteria was still in their bodies after treatment. Most doctors said that wasn't possible. Dr. Monica Embers at Tulane University ran the study that proved the patients right — she showed Lyme bacteria surviving in primates even after a full course of the most commonly prescribed antibiotic. Her team is now identifying combination treatments that can actually clear the infection.
TEAM NICOLE BELL & GALAXY DIAGNOSTICS — Building a test that actually works
The standard blood test for Lyme disease misses up to half of all cases — meaning countless patients test negative, get sent home, and keep getting sicker. Nicole Bell knows this firsthand. Her husband's Lyme went undiagnosed for over a year because his test came back negative. He passed away. She became CEO of Galaxy Diagnostics and dedicated herself to building a better test. Galaxy has developed the world's first urine-based Lyme test that detects the bacteria directly, rather than relying on an antibody response the body may never produce.

WATCH IT ALL COME TOGETHER ON MAY 9TH
On the evening of May 9th, Lyme Warrior is hosting its 10th Anniversary Gala at Saybrook Point Resort in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. These three researchers will be on stage together in front of 200 guests — competing in a live game show.
The fundraising totals from the Virtual 5K will be announced live on stage that night, with the researchers hearing the numbers for the first time in front of the room.
You don't need a ticket to be there. The entire evening will be livestreamed free to the community starting at 6pm ET. Tune in to watch the competition, cheer for your team, and see how much the Lyme community raised together!
