Understanding the Financial Burden of Lyme Disease

In addition to the physical and emotional toll of the disease, Lyme disease can also have a significant financial impact on patients and their families. The costs of diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of Lyme disease can add up quickly, and most insurance plans do not cover all of the necessary tests and treatments.

Non-Profit Organizations Offering Financial Assistance for Lyme Patients

  • Lyme Treatment Foundation - Receive up to $4,000 for treatments under the care of a ILADs certified physician. Check out their program here.

  • Lyme Light Foundation - Anyone diagnosed with Lyme disease between ages of 3-25 and can demonstrate a qualified financial need. Grants are awarded in incremental amounts. The lifetime maximum amount of a grant is $10,000 per individual or $30,000 per family. Click here to learn more about their grants.

  • Ticked Off Foundation - Foundation for adults needing funds for Lyme treatment or extreme emergencies. This foundation also helps pay for Cowden protocol. Click here to learn more.

  • Partner in Lyme - provides financial assistance to Connecticut residents diagnosed with Lyme Disease in total amounts of $1,000. Individuals can receive one grant and are given on a rolling basis. Details here.

  • Lyme Test Access Program (Lyme-TAP) - National patient assistance program for initial Lyme-related tests based on patient’s financial need. If approved, you may be reimbursed for up to 75% of the list price that the labs publish for testing from a qualified CLIA/Medicare approved laboratory of your choice. info@lymetap.com or click here.

  • Medical Bill Gurus - Provides insurance billing services to patients with qualifying insurance who received treatment at out of network medical providers, including cash only providers in the United States and Abroad.

  • Lyme Aid 4 Kids - Provides financial support for treatment and testing for individuals under 21 and can provide up to $1,000 toward diagnosis and treatment. Find details here.

  • Bridges to Access - The GSK program providing low cost or no cost medications for non-Medicare patients or for people who do not have prescription coverage. It is a great program for Malarone and Mepron. Click here.

  • Modest Needs - Modest Needs offers three main types of grants: Self-Sufficiency Grants, Back-to-Work Grants, and Independent Living Grants. The grants we offer at Modest Needs come with no strings attached and do not ever have to be repaid. Modest Needs’ grant programs are designed PRIMARILY to assist individuals and families who generally are able to pay their monthly bills with no help from anyone, who don’t qualify for conventional types of social or charitable assistance, and who are facing a financial crisis because they’ve encountered a single, unexpected expense.
    Of course, we also offer grants that are designed to assist people who are in the process of returning to work, persons who need help to afford accessibility equipment, and small non-profit organizations. But, in general, Modest Needs just does not have the resources to assist individuals or families who are homeless, have no regular income of their own, or need / receive ongoing help to afford the basics.
