The Jarisch–Herxheimer reaction, commonly called a “herx,” happens when inflammation occurs in your body from Lyme spirochetes that are being killed off by treatment. As the spirochetes die off you can experience symptoms, such as fever, chills, joint and muscle pain, etc.
